Our mission
The mission of Keystone Mortgage Academy is to engage, educate and employ people from minority communities in the real estate finance industry to increase minority homeownership and build generational wealth.
Low rates of black homeownership persists today
Some people find it hard to believe that the homeownership gap between blacks and whites is around 30%, about the same today as it was in the 1960s when discrimination and segregation were legal. Even after the Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed, black and brown families found it difficult to buy homes because of unfair lending practices and exclusion from loan programs that promoted homeownership.
Together, we can ignite change
With more minority mortgage brokers, we can shape a future where dreams of minority homeownership know no boundaries.

Increase Representation
Increasing the number of minority mortgage loan originators helps foster greater empathy and understanding of the unique challenges faced by black families seeking homeownership. Data shows that minority loan applications are more likely to be completed and approved when working with a minority loan officer. However, the number of minority loan officers today is below 10%.

Build Trust
Because of the historical legacy of discrimination and systemic biases in the mortgage industry, there is a level of mistrust among minority communities. By producing highly trained minority mortgage professionals we can encourage more minority families to engage in the homebuying process and pursue homeownership.

Connect with the Community
Minority loan originators can engage with their communities by providing educational programs that focus on homeownership, financial planning, credit management and other relevant topics important to the mortgage approval process.

Increasing diversity in the mortgage industry ensures that it reflects the demographics of the broader population.
